I've been published...

well kind of. Maybe not really.

A few months back I had to travel to Memphis for work. While there my co-worker and I wandered around the city during our off time. I took a bunch of pictures and posted them to my flickr account. Well I was contacted by the people at Schmap!! and was told that they liked one of my pictures and wanted my authorization to possibly use the picture. My picture was then put in a pool of other pictures for them to choose from.

I just found out that they decided on my picture and it has been posted on their site. There is even photo credit given to me. Awesome!

The page can be found here.

Club Ed

I've MIA and super busy lately, so I am trying to catch up on some of the posts I have been meaning to get done, but just haven't had time to get to.

Over the weekend of my birthday Jon and I went to California. The trip wasn't primarily for my birthday, but it was nice to get out of town. The trip was originally going to take place a few weekends prior, but there were scheduling issues. The plan was intended to go pick up some car parts and new wheels for Lucy (1962 Mercury Comet).

This is Lucy's before picture.

Here's Lucy with her new wheels and tires.

I have a fascination with ghost and old towns. Over time I think this has rubbed off on Jon. Club Ed is actually a movie set, located in Lancaster CA. It was originally built in 1990 for the movie Eye of the Storm. After filming the movie, they decided the set was too cool to tear down. It's described as an "outpost of classic Americana". We decided to drive out to it and take a look. Unfortunately, it's closed to the public so you can only take pictures from the road, but here are a few shots we got.

It's a pretty awesome place. I wish we could have gone in. There was a caretaker there, who we saw and he hid behind some of the buildings watching us. It didn't seem like he would be the type of guy to let us in to take a look around, since he didn't even want us to know he was there. The Club Ed website talks about the location and shows additional shots of the set including the interior of the buildings and the swimming pool located behind the inn.

To be Thankful

The Library of Congress has recently added several color pictures from the 1940's to their Flickr Stream. After looking through several of the pictures it made me very grateful for the sacrifices that so many people have made for this country. Veteran's day doesn't always have the celebration and fanfair that other holidays receive, but it doesn't make it any less of a holiday and I feel it should always be poignantly remembered by our country.

My Grandpa and Grandma on my mother's side as well as my Grandpa on my father's side all served in the arm forces. I am thankful for all they did in supporting this country. Here is a picture of my mom's parents.

If you have the time I highly recommend going through the pictures from the Library of Congress. They can be found here.

Gears 'n stuff

I recently took these pictures of what I believe was an old printing press. They are just random pictures of the gears and other mechanisms that I thought were unique.

The treetops glistened

This post is quick and simple. Just a couple of pictures of the trees around my house after Tuesday's storm.

Leaves

The weather last night says it's supposed to snow today, Thursday, Saturday & Sunday, so this picture seemed fitting as a reminder of the wonderful *extended* fall we had this year.

Don't be scared Stew

Here are a few pictures of my front porch on Halloween. This year I decided to plurge and get a life size skeleton, who I named Stew. Just a little background on Stew. For fear of him being stolen before the big day he got to ride around sitting in the backseat of my car buckled in for a few weeks. He was later moved inside and found a seat.

On Halloween night there was also a fog machine, but the fog doesn't translate well in pictures and just looked like I didn't know how to take a good picture, so you'll have to use your imagination.
