Rheumatologist visit part 2

Well... my follow up was today and I am left disappointed. I know what you are thinking.. why disappointed? Let me start from the top. I don't have Lupus, yay. Although I was pretty sure I didn't since anytime I get sick it's always something that no one expects.

Now on to the diagnosis.

The doctor says I have Fibromyalgia. However, I am not so sure about that. I say this because there seems to be limited testing available when determining if someone has this illness. Don't get me wrong. I am not saying it doesn't exist or whatever... I am just saying I don't think it's what is causing my problems. But, I can't really say I know what is.

My biggest problem with this diagnosis is that when I asked the Dr. what can be done about all of this water that I am retaining and how to get rid of it he simply said he had no idea why I am retaining water. um ok. I am not trying to be nit picky about all of this, but we aren't talking a few pounds of water here. During the past year we have figured that I have about 40-50 pounds of water that I am retaining.

The water appears to be the root of my problem. It's the water that is making my muscles hurt, which then causes me not to sleep well, I become tired, I forget things, I get anxious and frustrated and then it all just starts over the next day. From the time this started it was the swelling that was my main symptom over time it was the other things that started to come into the picture and this is why I don't think I have Fibromyalgia.

If anyone has any suggestions I welcome them, until then I sit in limbo again.

Felt-tastic!

Recently while perplexed that I did not have what I felt was an appropriate case for my ipod, Jon suggested that I make one. Mind you I had spent several hours searching the ipod aisles at the local target, other gadget stores, the apple store, and even eBay ( shocking, huh?). I found these sock things that you are supposed to put your ipod in. They were ok, and being able to purchase them at the apple knock-off price of $5.00 I thought they would work. Well there was a delay in shipping.. blah blah.

So be it my luck that the day I go to Joann's tired of waiting for these sock things - they show up in the mail. Despite this I still decided to make my own case. This is the 2nd one I made. The first was more of a prototype.

Rheumatologist visit part 1

Yesterday was finally the day I got the see the rheumatologist. It’s been over a year, 3 doctors later and hopefully they will figure out what is causing my symptoms and pain.

The doctor seems great. He was very interested in what has been going on. He mentioned that most of the basic tests have already been run by the prior two doctors. He wrote an order to take my blood to have it tested for Lupus. He mentioned that he doesn’t think I have Lupus but wanted to make sure since some of my symptoms do match. Otherwise he is thinking that I have Fibromyalgia. This is not certain and I have a follow up appointment on Monday the 30th. Hopefully at that appointment I will have more information, an actual diagnosis and treatment plan.

Info about Fibromyalgia can be found at http://www.arthritis.org/disease-center.php?disease_id=10

Dear inconsiderate man at Taco Time

We patiently waited behind you in line as you chose to hold a conversation through your Bluetooth headset and order simultaneously, thus confusing the lady taking your order. Then after placing our order remarkably fast in comparison to you, we were once again held up by you at the condiment bar. You once again felt that your phone conversation was a priority and made a mess of the condiments, left your iphone in front of the condiments and then glared at us as we waited for you to finish.

Upon settling into our booth and beginning to enjoy our lunch your booming voice once again intruded into our afternoon. This time we had to endure your endless conversations with various individuals as you informed them about a guy named "Joe". Also, your eloquence in dropping the f-bomb multiple times during your conversations for all dinners to hear was more than enough for us to handle.

Thankfully, you then stood up as though you were going to finally exit the restaurant. However, you had to confuse the lady at the counter just one more time as you approached her and asked for bag while you once again were involved in a conversation via your bluetooth headset.

In the future, inconsiderate man, may I suggest that your conduct your "work" phone calls in privacy so that the rest of us do not have to listen to you carry on regarding Joe and your opinions of how many people really should be involved in that project.

It's that time of the year...

Wedding Season. And in honor of those new and soon to be brides I thought I would post some tips I recently came across. This is from Woman's World, 1957. I don't know who has the time to be the wife described in this article, because I sure don't.

All he wants is the basic love, companionship, warmth and fun of a good wife and mother. He wants to be able to bring his friends home unexpectedly and find the house in order, a meal miraculously brought out of the hat without any fuss, and a warm welcome for everyone.

A man is the envy of his friends if he has a wife who does not greet him at the door saying, "Why didn't you ring me and say you were bringing someone home?" He likes to know she'll say, "What nice friends you have," instead of "I can't think why you bother about that awful bore....besides he doesn't stop drinking. He hasn't left a drop in the house."

She sees that his clothes are always spotless and well pressed. Looking at him, his friends know that he has a good wife because he always looks well-groomed and his expression is contented.

There are some women who can't wait to tell their husbands what kind of day they had, what they bought, what their neighbors had to say. Every woman might as well accept the fact that to make a marriage work she MUST put her husband first. Before she tackles her own affairs she should ask tenderly, gaily, kindly, brightly, thoughtfully, according to type, what his day was like. There are plenty of wives who complain that their husbands never tell them a thing. Are they sure it isn't their own fault?

A wise woman plans for her man in an encouraging way. She won't ever say, "Why can't you earn as much as Bill Jones? You started at the same time and he makes twice as much as you do." This is fatal. She'll say instead, "Fancy that silly old Bill Jones doing so well. I bet he wouldn't have got there without YOUR help, darling....I'm really proud of you."

With this wonderful spur, she'll gently lead her husband the way she wants him to go, tactfully, with a word of praise. She neither pushes nor persuades. She simply angles whenever she sees the opportunities until, in the end, he takes the bit between his teeth and bolts just where he has been led; but he still thinks it was his idea and she is happy with his male misapprehension.

The sensible wife dodges sarcasm unless she is really witty. She may be so capable that she would make a strong man wilt, but she plays up her feminine weaknesses. While she does most things well - she never makes it a point to do so - she never neglects her appearance. She never seems to have moments with her hair in curlers, her make-up messy, or her face all greasy. She manages this sort of thing when her husband is at work.

She is probably a little extravagant - it's the only way to be impeccable, whatever anyone may say.

And tired though she is from bringing up the children and all the other chores, she somehow or other manages to appear bright and interested to her husband when he arrives home. She never puts the children before her husband but gives them a lot of loving when father's not about; and she builds up a picture in her children's mind that their father is a wonderful man.

She never nags - it's the quickest route to the divorce courts, and even grounds for divorce these days. She often flatters, but never so much that she appears false, and she never picks on her husband's weaknesses unless as an indulgent joke.

She realizes that no one ever really outgrows their weaknesses but knows that a slight awareness of them isn't a bad idea. He might overcome them one day. She didn't marry the man with the idea of changing him. She just makes the most of the things she likes about her man.
