Well... my follow up was today and I am left disappointed. I know what you are thinking.. why disappointed? Let me start from the top. I don't have Lupus, yay. Although I was pretty sure I didn't since anytime I get sick it's always something that no one expects.
Now on to the diagnosis.
The doctor says I have Fibromyalgia. However, I am not so sure about that. I say this because there seems to be limited testing available when determining if someone has this illness. Don't get me wrong. I am not saying it doesn't exist or whatever... I am just saying I don't think it's what is causing my problems. But, I can't really say I know what is.
My biggest problem with this diagnosis is that when I asked the Dr. what can be done about all of this water that I am retaining and how to get rid of it he simply said he had no idea why I am retaining water. um ok. I am not trying to be nit picky about all of this, but we aren't talking a few pounds of water here. During the past year we have figured that I have about 40-50 pounds of water that I am retaining.
The water appears to be the root of my problem. It's the water that is making my muscles hurt, which then causes me not to sleep well, I become tired, I forget things, I get anxious and frustrated and then it all just starts over the next day. From the time this started it was the swelling that was my main symptom over time it was the other things that started to come into the picture and this is why I don't think I have Fibromyalgia.
If anyone has any suggestions I welcome them, until then I sit in limbo again.

Wow. Oi. How frustrating. First, just let me say that this is your body and your life, so you should be nit picky as hell! Doctors do NOT know everything and no one knows your body and your symptoms better than you!
Secondly, have you done any of your own research? Funnily enough, I used the WebMD symptom checker at one point which is when MS popped up as a possible cause for all of my symptoms. From there I did further research and then took that info to my doctor. The web can be a great resource for health information.
See what you can find and go back to your doctor with your findings. The doctor/patient relationship should be that of a team...working together to solve the problem. However they can be very good at pushing us around and telling us what they think as if it's God's gospel.
If your doctor isn't open to what you are saying or not open to doing further tests and investigations, time to find a different doctor. "I don't know" should not be a place to stop. It should be a driving force to figure why you are retaining so much water and what can be done about it (Honestly, where's Dr. House when you need him?).
Know that I've been thinking about you and I am hoping you find some answers soon. Let me know if I can do anything!
I totally agree! You know your body better than any doctor would so don't accept an "It's PROBABLY this" as a place to stop. Sometimes doctors make me so mad...don't tell Scott;) I hope you can find someone to figure out the water retention issue soon!
Have the Dr test your Thyroid if they haven't already. Years ago I was told I had Fibromyalgia because I had the symptoms. Turns out Hypothyroidism has the same symptoms and that's what I have. Good Luck hope you have answers soon.
